All Day the Whiteness of the Sky, Snow and the Whiteness of the Ground.

All day the world grows smaller, bit by bit.

You sleep late
and look through the window
for a long time.

Through the branches small heads of birds
peeking.

They want to steal a look, give or take a few
words for a poem.

The books have all gained weight and smell sweet.
You know that soon you won't be able to move your legs.

If only you could open
the window.
The air outside must be so cold, so fresh.

The Art of Intuition

Lately I've been reading Sophy Burnham's The Art of Intuition: Cultivating Your Inner Wisdom.

It's quite a good read if you're at all interested in intuition, psychic abilities and such. One of the things I really liked about the book is Ms. Burnham's honesty about the whole world of psychic abilities and her own journey. She's not someone who claims to have all the answers. She's interested in the journey. She tells us that she wasn't a true believer from the start and actually describes herself as laughing at readings she received in her youth, though they later turned out to be accurate. She talks about the experiences she has had and how, slowly, she entered this world of extra sensory information.

The book gives exercises and advice on how to cultivate your own abilities, but mostly it's a fascinating journey with a warm and loving guide. It's a book that encourages us to fully embrace what it means to be human, even if we don't really understand it fully, to love our lives and each other and walk through this world with compassion and eyes wide open.

I had such a weird dream this morning. Some guy wanted to kill a bunch of people somehow (it was horrible, but I don't remember the details) but then he sort of mellowed. We went to his house, which was really beautiful. He had such nice, modern fixtures. His back yard was a great view of some very close mountains, and the way the mountains had formed, you could see the great slabs of stone piled up on top of each other like an opened book or a neat pile of sandwich meat. He also had this very small but old tree winding around the house on a trellis. It seemed to be autumn, but I could somehow sense the tree would be gorgeous when it bloomed. There were also a few monkeys there but I called them apes because it seemed more dignified.

Every time you blink
another year

the dog grey around the muzzle

even school days
somehow
seem magical--

you forget the slaps,
the confused hunger,

and why not
another cup of coffee—

last night I almost fell
asleep on the drive home
how about you?
